Most rental and equipment-buying surprises come from fees nobody asked about: delivery, damage waivers, fuel, overtime hours and cleaning. Take these questions to every tool rental shop you call, write the answers down side by side, and get the important ones on the contract.
When to reserve: usually same day to 2 days ahead.
The Questions
- What is the 4-hour, daily and weekly price?
- Are blades, bits, sandpaper or pads included, or sold by use?
- Is there a deposit, and how is it refunded?
- Can you show me how to use it safely before I leave?
- Will it fit in my vehicle, or do I need a trailer?
- What happens if I return it late or dirty?
- Do you offer a damage waiver for tools?
- Is there a cheaper reconditioned or older model?
Tips
- Half-day (4-hour) rates make sense only if you can pick up, finish and return inside the window.
- Buy consumables (sanding discs, blades) in advance; rental counters charge per use.
- Check whether you need a hitch or truck before you go.
Before You Sign
- Check the start and end dates and times, the exact model and attachments, and the total price.
- Read the damage, loss and late-return terms.
- Photograph the equipment at delivery and return.
- Pay by credit card where possible, and keep the signed contract.
